The National Minimum Wage

The Low Paid Commission recommends the changes to the National Minimum Wage each year to the Government.

The next increase is on 1st October 2013, the age related rates will rise to;

  • £6.31 per hour for adult workers aged 21 or over.
  • £5.03 per hour for 18-20 year-olds
  • £3.72 per hour for under-18s who have left compulsory education
  • £2.68 per hour for apprentices under 19 years old or 19 or over and in the first year of their apprenticeship. Continue Reading

John Lewis staff £40m Holiday Pay blunder!!

You may have seen the recent headlines in the nationals, The John Lewis partnership will make a one-off compensation pay out to its 69,000 employees because of an error in calculating holiday pay.

Sounds like an expensive error to make.

The calculation of holiday pay and holiday accruals has always been a complicated business, more so in the last couple of years since case law is no longer consistent with the literal wording of the regulations. Continue Reading
